Objective: To prepare a culturally authentic meal for you and your family. This will include preparing a budget, menu, shopping, cooking, serving the meal,  and cleaning up the kitchen. Novice interculturality I can statements: - In my own and other cultures I can identify products and practices to help me understand perspectives. -I can interact at a survival level in some familiar everyday contexts.

                                                                                                                                                This project is due __________

  1. Prepare a budget: Remember, you will be preparing all parts of the meal. You should first consider what you have on hand at home. Then, you should consider which foods are in season. Be sure to save all the receipts – you have to turn these in!
  2. Shopping list in French- You will create a shopping list in French with at least ten food items with quantities
  1. Serve the meal: Your meal will include the following
  • Appetizer: very simple (fresh vegetables, a soup, etc.)
  • Main dish: this needs to be French, from France. Check with French Food and Cook http://web.archive.org/web/20070707151028/http://www.frenchfoodandcook.com/index.htm,
  • Salad course: just a green salad with vinaigrette. Do NOT use Ranch dressing!!
  • Cheese course: No cheddar here! Try a cheese like brie or camembert. The cheese course is normally served with bread.
  • Dessert: this should be French style, BUT it doesn’t have to be homemade. No cheesecake! Fruit is a perfectly acceptable dessert
  1. Dinner Conversation Cards: During the meal, instruct your family as to proper table etiquette in France. Teach your family how to accept and pass food in French, and when they complement your cooking, respond appropriately in French. Create cards in French and English so your family will know what to say (at least 5 expressions)
  1. Take Pictures of the Process: Capture the memories for each part of the project: the shopping trip, the cooking, serving the meal, and cleaning the kitchen and create captions (you may use English) of your pictures (eight total)
  1. Family Comments: Have each family give you feedback about your meal and describe the favorite part of the meal.
  1. Personal Reflection: Include your own thoughts of the meal. Include what your favorite and least favorite parts of the project were and what you would do differently next time. What did you learn about yourself from doing this project? How will you continue to use the skills you used to complete this project?
  1. Memory Book: Don’t forget to let your personality shine through with creative touches in your scrap book!
  • A decorated cover including your name and class period. This does not need to be an actual scrapbook. You may use computer paper or construction paper, but it should be bound with staples, brads, ribbon, etc.
  • A table of contents
  • The menu of your meal (In French)
  • Your budget and your receipts with an analysis (in English) of your spending.
  • The shopping list for your meal in French including the expressions of quantity: Ex. Une livre d’haricots verts. You will use http://www.recettes.qc.ca/liste_epicerie/ to create your list in Be sure to add the expressions of quantity. You should have at least ten items
  • Two photos of each part of the process with captions (at least 8 photos total), and all recipes used in the project. These should come from French Food and Cook or approved by Madame in advance. http://web.archive.org/web/20070707151028/http://www.frenchfoodandcook.com/index.htm, my other preapproved web links http://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=279508b  Be reminded that this is French from FRANCE.  The maximum points will be given for the most authentic recipe sources.
